Christmas holiday house in Cornwall

Christmas in Cornwall

Jenny and her family had Christmas at a luxury eco resort this year, here is her write up on the experience…

This year we decided to hire a big house over Christmas, allowing both of our families to be together and avoiding having to spend the day driving around to multiple locations to ensure we see everyone. It also meant my brother Sam and his wife and family could join us from Wales.
We decided on Melody Farm House at The Emerald and what a perfect choice it was. We nicknamed it the ‘home alone house’, as it was massive in size and somewhere we were all going to have a lot of fun in.
We started a thread on Whatsapp and began planning our Merry Christmas Holiday! With twelve of us and a baby, planning the food and logistics for the four days was important.

We were so excited!

The Cornish lot arrived to a warm welcome on the 23rd December, where port, wine, mince pies and a twinkling tree awaited us. The house was better than we imagined and worked so well for families sharing it together. Each spacious bedroom had its own bathroom and there were enough break out spaces for you to not ever feel on top of each other. The two living rooms were particularly useful when there was a difference of opinion on the TV channel and the self playing piano created a lovely atmosphere, there were even Christmas themed discs for it; everything has been thought of.

The Welsh lot joined on Christmas eve, it was so nice to finally all be together after months of planning, everyone was buzzing with excitement.

After unpacking all the food (into the walk in larder!) and getting settled in our rooms, we began making use of the facilities.

The ten person hot tub, complete with colour changing lighting and a built in CD player was a real treat that was used by everyone lots over the four days.
Baby Isla loved the swimming pool and pre dinner swims were a regular occurrence to build an appetite for many of us.
The tennis courts were a big hit, some very competitive games were played! They even had a tennis ball launcher for pre game practice.
The grounds around the house are beautiful for a walk and the sun deck by the pond makes for a nice quiet reading spot. We made the most of everything on site during our stay.

Christmas morning was spent in the large living room, which gave us plenty of room to spread out to unwrap presents. The cooking then commenced, with so many of us this was shared out, which meant the pressure was off just one person and everyone could relax and enjoy the morning. The large kitchen, middle island for extra prep space and the Aga made this easy and enjoyable. The big dining table gave us plenty of room to all eat around together and as we toasted Merry Christmas, we felt very lucky and grateful to be sharing this experience with each other.

The position of the house was ideal, close to Falmouth and Truro for last minute shopping or drinks in town, beaches within a short drive for a boxing day walk and not far from the A30 to access other places to visit for the day. To be honest though, we hardly left, we loved our little retreat tucked away from the busyness of Christmas preparations and we didn’t want to burst our bubble by venturing out to the big wide world!

Our four days spent in Melody Farm were truly wonderful, with lots of quality family time, fun and many happy memories made. Thank you to Tim at The Emerald for allowing us to have a Christmas together that we will always remember.
